sorry for asking this here i was afraid i’d only get spam responses in the correct category.
i was wondering about at home medical transcription.. is it easy to get jobs in this field? how do you find them? and how easy is it work the job with your kids around? oh and i guess about how much does it pay?
thanks!
I work as a nurse at a hospital that just had a large number of lay-offs, many in the transcription department. The experienced MT’s that I know are having a hard time finding any work of this sort. Many companies do not want this information to be let into the wrong hands, therefore they hire and you work on-site. Also I now many companies make sure you have a quiet area and quiet time to do this type of work so kids running around to me…doesn’t sound real promising as far as getting the deadlines met. You may want to take the course and get a job with a local hospital/medical clinic and after you have experience and a reputation with them they may allow you to do this work at home, this is the way that the hospital I work for does things, after you have been there full-time for 3 years you can choose to have an at home office that they will set up with the proper equipment for you. The pay ranges from $8-$12/hour where I am from. Good luck to you!

Not many doctors want their files and reports to leave their offices, so getting work may pose a problem. Nothing is easy with kids around if you are trying to concentrate on what you are doing, and the pay varies by the amount of work you do.

I have worked from home with two different companies and it’s easy to work around my daughter. She is 10 months old and I find it best to work when she’s napping so I work my schedule around naps, especially if I have to be on the phone. If I’m just doing work on the computer I let her sit with me and "help". So far so good!
You can check this website: http://www.wahm.com/ for medical transcription jobs. They usually have a lot on there.
Good luck to you!
