Stay at home moms who went back to work?

How long were you at home with your kids before you went back to work? I’m with my child now and I wonder how easy it will be to get hired someday. I worked for seven years as a teacher, successfully, and live in an area with a good job market.

I stayed home until my youngest started school full time. 1st grade.I had no problem getting back into the world of the work. I was honest on my applications and told them I took time off to raise my kids.I also put down the skills I acquired by being a stay at home mom.Organization skills, ability to multitask, dispute settlement and compromising skills. I actually had a choice and had to turn down several of the jobs i applied for.

I stayed at home with my kids for seven years and was able to get a good job when I was ready. I think that most people see being a Mom as a hard job and very selfless to devote your time to raise a child to become a wonderful person. They recieved me with open arms and understood that parenting is important and that I could do any job put in front of me after chasing kids, laundry, meal making, cleaning, etc. I think you’ll do fine to listen to your heart and go with your gut instincts when it comes to how long you stay at home. Good Luck and enjoy it All!

I stayed at home for 20 (yes, twenty) years, until my daughter graduated college. I used to work at a hospital as a secretary/ file manager. After so much time away from work, I didn’t feel comfortable going back (I really never spent time with any other adults besides my husband after I had a child) so instead I decided to take some classes at the local college and do some volunteer work. It doesn’t pay, but I enjoy it.

I know plenty of women who went back to work after only a few years at home, so I’m sure you’ll be able to find a decent job that you enjoy. I wish you all the best job-hunting.

As a teacher, you will be able to go back when you are ready. There is such a shortage of good teachers out there. I commend you on that. It isn’t much pay, but it’s a lot of school, and takes a lot of patience… A LOT OF PATIENCE. :) I want to be an accountant with my own business but not until after all my babies are in school.

My daughter is 22 months old. I stayed home with her until she was 19 months. I wanted to stay at home longer and enjoy her toddler time, but money didn’t permit any longer and it was just what I had to do. Every employer knows that people have kids and that people’s kids come first. Good luck and whenever you’re ready, just go back to work. It’ll be hard at first, but soon you’ll get the swing of things and it will be all good.

I was home for her first 16 months. The longer you are out of the job market the harder it will be for you to gain employment even as a teacher. And with the current ressession that "good job market" isn’t going to be so good soon with more and more people on the unemployment lines.
